Seth Rogen To Helm ‘Venom’ Animated Movie For Sony Pictures

Could Sony Pictures finally be making a good Spider-Man movie? A new rumor suggests Seth Rogen is developing a Venom animated movie for the studio.

Sony Pictures has suffered flop after flop with their attempts to make movies out of Spider-Man villains. However, it seems they’re changing course after the complete failure of Madame Web. According to scooper CanWeGetSomeToast, the studio has enlisted Seth Rogen to write and produce an R-Rated Venom animated movie.

This rumor comes in contrasts to Seth Rogen’s statements about Marvel in the past. When asked why he hasn’t worked on a project with them in the past, Rogen admitted he’s afraid they’d constrain his process with his creative partner Evan Goldberg. Though it’s possible Sony Pictures’ particular lack of control over the quality of their Spider-Man films is what drew Rogen to this potential Venom project.

Seth Rogen’s History With Comic Book Projects

Seth Rogen is no stranger to working on comic book properties. An R-Rated Venom movie would be right up his alley, given the actor serves as a producer on The Boys, which is known and acclaimed for its over the top violence. However, his predilection for the dark and violent likely stems back to his role working on the Preacher series.

Seth Rogen is also no stranger to animated movies. He recently wrote, produced and acted in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. The movie made a killing at the box office, earning it both a sequel and an animated spin-off set in the same universe.

This isn’t even to mention Invincible. Just like this rumored Venom movie, it’s an R-Rated animated project produced by Seth Rogen. Invincible has been hailed as one of the best animated superhero shows of all time, suggesting great things if Sony Pictures was actually able to snag Rogen.
