Paul Rudd Has ‘No Idea’ When He’ll Return As Ant-Man In The MCU

Did Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania kill Scott Lang’s future? Paul Rudd recently spoke on his potential return in the MCU.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania seemed to be a turning point in the discourse surrounding the MCU. It was the first film to show that even the biggest heroes (well, smallest) aren’t immune to a bad box office performance. This isn’t even to mention all the controversy surrounding the film, from recasting Cassie Lang to everything surrounding Jonathan Majors.

This left many fans to question if Paul Rudd would ever return as Scott Lang in the MCU. When asked about this during his recent promotional tour for the new Ghostbusters movie, Rudd admitted that he isn’t sure when or if he’ll return to the role of Ant-Man.

“I have no idea,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t know, yeah…that’s not for me to answer. You’d have to go to Kevin Feige and those, I guess.”

It’s certainly not a new development that Marvel wouldn’t tell actors about their return to the MCU until plans for a sequel are in place. However, going on a year since Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania first released, it certainly isn’t looking good for Paul Rudd’s journey as Scott Lang to continue outside of a team-up movie.

Marvel May Be Culling Its Heroes

Ant-Man isn’t the only hero that may be cut from the MCU. Marvel has recently been in a phase of experimentation, introducing dozens of new heroes and series to find out what works. However, with Disney’s CEO Bob Iger now committed to “quality over quantity”, the amount of active MCU franchises may be set to dwindle.

Eternals is the most high profile example, with a recent report suggesting the planned sequel has been scrapped. However, the characters from the film won’t be leaving the MCU, with Marvel reworking the film into a new project without the baggage of the previous title.

Fans have also looked to characters like Captain Marvel as being next on the chopping block, given The Marvels flopped in a similar way to Ant-Man’s last film. However, given Captain Marvel is still a billion dollar franchise, there’s no telling which heroes may or may not get the axe in the MCU’s future.
