Marriage or the wedding day is a really special event in everyone’s life as it’s a sign of starting a new phase in life with your partner. It is also an opportunity to create beautiful memories together. But for some people this day turns out to be a nightmare due to reasons like dowry, which is still prevalent in the society. Recently, in a shocking incident, a groom in Madhya Pradesh called off his wedding as the bride’s father couldn’t fulfill the demands of a bike and gold chain.
As per reports, the wedding ceremony which was scheduled to take place on March 4, the groom’s family reportedly reached the location on the fixed time and just before the ‘jaimaal’ (garland exchange) ceremony they demanded a bike and a gold chain in dowry from the bride’s family.
On the other hand, the bride’s family expressed their inability to fulfill the demands of the groom’s side and tensions flared at the wedding venue. According to reports, the groom had allegedly held the bride’s father by the collar which even worsened the situation. Later, the groom along with his procession left the wedding venue that left the bride’s family puzzled and deceived.
The bride however, expressed her disappointment and stated that should’ve never married a person who has threatened her father and held him from his collar.
This is not the first time when a marriage got called off at the last moment due to dowry. Recently, a wedding called off because the bride demanded a hefty dowry. As per stated in a report in The Times of India, a sum of Rs 2 Lakh had already been given to the bride’s family, as per a custom of reverse dowry but the bride was not fully satisfied with the money given and finally the marriage was called off. Later the police informed that the bride was not interested in marrying the groom either.
