DC Studios co-head James Gunn has officially revealed the composer of Superman: Legacy. Through his Instagram account, Gunn broke the news that John Murphy has joined the DC Universe as the composer for the movie’s score. Gunn and Murphy previously worked together on The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Gunn, who is writing and directing Superman: Legacy, expressed his enthusiasm for Murphy’s involvement in a heartfelt Instagram post. He wrote: “Happy to announce that my frequent collaborator @johnmurphycomposer is scoring #SupermanLegacy. John was one of the first people I called when I finished the script many months ago as I knew how incredibly important the score was to this production. John has been working tirelessly since, creating hours worth of music that we’ll play on set as we shoot & use in the edit & that will eventually be recorded with a glorious symphony for all of you. Welcome to the DCU, John!”
John Murph is an esteemed composer known for his work in film and television. His impressive portfolio includes scores for hit movies like 28 Days Later and Sunshine, as well as Kick-Ass and Snatch. Murphy’s distinctive musical style, which often blends orchestral elements with electronic music, has garnered him critical acclaim and a loyal following.
Superman’s DC Universe Future
Set to begin production in March 2024, Superman: Legacy promises a fresh take on the iconic superhero saga, featuring David Corenswet stepping into the role of Superman, previously portrayed by Henry Cavill. Joining Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in this new chapter of the Superman story is Nicholas Hoult, who is taking on the role of the villainous Lex Luthor.
Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark Kent and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
