After becoming famous following their debut on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1996, Abby, one half of the inseparable couple, stunned many by marrying Josh Bowling in 2021 who is a nurse and U.S. Army veteran. Pictures on social media show a wedding photo, with the conjoined twins in a bridal gown and Josh Bowling, dressed in a grey suit, standing alongside them and holding hands. According to Today, the twins work as fifth-grade teachers and live in Minnesota, which is their hometown. Another user, Heidi Bowling originally shared a brief video clip that shows the pair dancing during their wedding reception. However, there are no statements by the twins as of now.
Reportedly, Abby and Brittany is a dicephalus conjoined twin, which means they share the same bloodstream and all organs below the waist. Abby controls the right arm and leg, while Brittany controls the left. Born in 1990 to Patty and Mike Hensel, their parents decided against separation surgery because of the significant dangers involved. Doctors at the time advised against it, citing the tiny probability of both twins surviving the procedure. Back in 2001, in an interview with Time Magazine, their father Mike said, “How could you pick between the two?”
While the situation is a peculiar one for the twins, their bond with each other is admirable. Earlier Abby had stated, “We never wish we were separated because we would never be able to do all the things that we do now, like play softball, run and do sports,” as quoted by The Mirror. Reportedly, on their 16th birthday, the twins passed their driving test and both were eligible to be behind the wheel.
The sisters rose to prominence in 1996, when they featured on an episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show. Their lives were then captured on TLC’s reality show Abby & Brittany. Reportedly, at an early age they both had decided that they would like to embrace motherhood in the future.
