Residents of the Kharadi area in Maharashtra’s Pune were utterly shocked after witnessing a peculiar phenomenon of what appeared to be a ‘mosquito tornado’ swirling over a river. In a video that surfaced on social media, swarms of mosquitos were seen forming a vortex over the Mutha River in Keshavnagar, Kharadi, which is covered in hyacinths.
The video was widely re-shared by people some of whom expressed shock at the bizarre incident, while others tagged Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya seeking action against the authorities.
Calling it dangerous, many people also demanded the removal of water hyacinths, which bloom in bulbous clusters in a thick layer over the water, invading the surface completely.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the video was shared on Instagram two days ago and has amassed over 4.5 million views.
