2025 Renault Captur: Updated SUV confirmed for Australia

Renault has revealed an updated version of its Mazda CX-3-rivalling Captur light SUV overnight, with refreshed styling to bring it in line with newer models in the French brand’s stable.

The company has confirmed the updated Captur arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2025. For context, it’s launching in the UK during the third quarter of 2024.

A Renault Australia spokesperson has said price and specifications, including the engine lineup, for the updated Captur will be detailed at a later date.

The pre-update Renault Captur for context is currently offered locally in three trim levels – Life, Zen and Intens – all powered by a non-hybridised 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 113kW of power and 270Nm of torque. This powertrain is still available in the facelifted model.

The updated Captur receives refreshed front and rear end designs, as well as different alloy wheel designs, and a revised LED lighting signature that’s similar to what the Clio hatchback recently received.

There’s also a new flagship Esprit Alpine trim that has a number of gloss black and matte grey exterior details, plus large 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin tyres.

Inside there’s a new OpenR Link infotainment system with Google built-in. This means Google services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, and a range of downloadable Google Play apps are available natively in the infotainment system.

There’s a new 10.4-inch (up from 9.3 inches) portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system that offers both wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that can display navigation information.

Another interior tweak includes the removal of all leather finishes across the updated Captur range, replaced with a “grained cover material” as Renault works to completely phase out “animal-derived materials” by 2025.

There are also no chrome finishes on the vehicle.

Globally the updated Renault Captur is available with six powertrains across three fuel types. These include two turbo-petrol engines, two 12V mild-hybrid turbo-petrol engines, a dual-fuel petrol-LPG engine, as well as a series-parallel hybrid powertrain referred to as the “E-Tech full hybrid”.

The latter of these engines hasn’t been confirmed for Australia at this stage.

The hybrid combines a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a two electric motors and a 1.2kWh battery pack for a total system output of 107kW. There’s also a multi-mode dog-clutch transmission that has four gears for the petrol engine and two gears for the main electric motor.

Renault claims it has revised the Captur’s suspension geometry, the “force-velocity characteristics” of the shock absorbers, and tweaked the power steering calibration.

The company claims these changes have resulted in improved body control and “significantly increased driving pleasure”.

On the safety front the updated Captur receives intelligent speed limit assist as it’s now required in Europe, as well as a new customisable ‘My Safety Switch’ on the left side of the steering wheel which can allow the driver to activate or deactivate certain driver assist settings all at once.

As detailed above, the updated Renault Captur will be arriving in Australia in the first quarter of 2025.
