Despite the DCEU being put out to pasture, Zack Snyder remains undeterred in his pursuit of continuing his Justice League franchise and is even open to the idea of doing it in animation.
In an interview with Empire Magazine, via CBM, the filmmaker hinted that plans for sequels are not entirely off the table. Snyder told the outlet that he is open to finishing Justice League 2 and 3 in animated form, saying: “Yeah, absolutely. That’d be fun. That’d be cool.”
“I don’t think anything is going to happen right away,” Snyder previously said in 2020. “But Jim [Lee] and I talk quite a bit. And we talked a lot about maybe doing a book or a comic book down the road just to kind of finish this.”
“We haven’t locked anything in, but if it’s a thing that would be interesting to the fandom, they can always ask Jim about it” Snyder added.
After years of relentless fan campaigns demanding Warner Bros. #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, the miracle finally happened in 2021 with the premiere of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max.
Rather than simply completing his director’s cut, Snyder went further by shooting new scenes and laying the groundwork for potential sequels, which were later revealed in storyboard form. However, these ideas included ridiculous storylines such as Superman falling under Darkseid’s control and get this, Bruce Wayne having a child with Lois Lane.
Elsewhere in the Empire interview, Snyder was asked if he’s still surprised by the controversy which surrounds his decision to have Batman and Superman kill in movies like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
“The only reason I’m not surprised is that some people got brainwashed by a bunch of material that’s not consistent with true canon,” Snyder said. “And that’s fine. They’re on their own journey.”
Snyder, who still is in serious denial about the end of his DCEU, has zero chance for continuing his Justice League franchise, in whatever form, especially when former Marvel filmmaker James Gunn assumed leadership of DC along with Peter Safran, effectively dashing any hopes of realizing Snyder’s vision for the Justice League.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is currently available and playing on streaming platforms.
