Could Justin Hammer make his grand return in Armor Wars? Sam Rockwell responds to the swelling rumors of his Marvel Cinematic Universe return.
Armor Wars is a project that has been stuck in development for years, with almost no news coming out about the MCU series-turned-movie. This has led scoopers to claim everyone from Ultron to Justin Hammer will return in the series. While promoting his recent project Argylle, Sam Rockwell responded to the rumors of his return by saying he hasn’t gotten a call from Marvel… for now.
“Well, I’m waiting for the phone call…I haven’t gotten the phone call, no. I’m growing the beard and everything.” Rockwell explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Listen, I’m in dude. Yeah, let’s go.”
Sam Rockwell recently made his return to the MCU in What If…? season 2, having been absent as Justin Hammer for nearly a decade since his cameo in the short film All Hail The King. It’s clear that Rockwell and Marvel have an open line of communication and a willingness to work together, so the only thing stopping this dream from becoming a reality may be the development limbo of Armor Wars itself.
An official press release from Marvel Studios following Disney’s D23 Expo has confirmed that Don Cheadle’s Rhodey will be donning some new suits as War Machine when Armor Wars arrives in theaters. According to the release: “Rhodey fans will see the character in a whole new light, and considering the title of the series, audiences can look forward to all-new suits for the hero, featuring different types of armor.
Throughout his time in the MCU, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark created a vast array of Iron Man suits for himself. Rhodey has been seen in a few different variations of his War Machine armor as well, though it sounds like fans will get to see more takes on Rhodey’s crimefighting gear in Armor Wars.
It’s likely Don Cheadle’s Rhodey won’t be the only character suiting up either. The film’s official description teases Armor Wars will feature Tony Stark’s technology falling into the wrong hands, as in the comics that inspired the series, so fans should expect to see Rhodey going up against some armored adversaries.
There is currently no release date slated for the film. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming Armor Wars series, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
