A routine date night for Kerigan Nardi and her husband took a nightmarish turn when their home security system alerted them to an unexpected guest making himself at home. Last Saturday, January 27, the Nardi couple received a chilling notification of movement within their southeast Nashville residence. Initially dismissing it as a potential false alarm triggered by their pets, the US couple decided to check their security cameras remotely. To their shock, they witnessed a stranger forcefully breaking into their home, rummaging through their belongings, and then, in an unexpected turn of events, taking a shower, according to a report by UNILAD.
The bewildered homeowners immediately dialled 911 while worrying about the safety of their dogs inside the house. “Our fur babies are there. There’s a man in our house we don’t know. We just need to get home,” Kerigan expressed to WIS 10 in the aftermath of the incident.
Law enforcement swiftly responded to the distress call, arriving at the Nardi residence to find the intruder, identified as Samuel Smith, casually sitting on their couch with nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist. Smith was promptly arrested and charged with aggravated criminal trespassing and possession of methamphetamine, as per the arrest affidavit.
“He was naked, sitting on our couch,” Kerigan recounted, expressing the violation felt by the couple. “You don’t just violate people like that. It doesn’t matter what kind of psychosis you’re in. It doesn’t matter what kind of drugs you use. You don’t break into people’s houses and violate them that way,” she added.
The Nardis, shaken by the incident, have taken extensive measures to restore a sense of security to their home. They thoroughly disinfected the rooms the intruder entered, discarded the towel he used, and even bleached their shower. However, the cleanup process turned out to be more challenging than expected.
“As he was taking a shower, in my home, he left some excrement behind,” Kerigan disclosed to WIS 10. “Yes, he decided that that would be a nice present for the homeowners, I suppose.”
Traumatised by the experience, the couple has reinforced their home security by installing a deadbolt lock and adding a barricade to their door for extra protection when they are away. They are also planning to expand their surveillance system with additional cameras and are encouraging their neighbours to do the same.
“I think that people need to just get cameras and be careful because you never know,” Kerigan emphasised, highlighting the importance of vigilance in safeguarding one’s home.
