Josh Brolin Just Teased A Thanos Return In The MCU

It seems the Mad Titan’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is far from over. Josh Brolin recently revealed he’s heard whispers of Marvel wanting to bring Thanos back in the MCU.

Thanos has been a core part of the MCU for over a decade, not only being the main villain of the Avengers saga but also appearing in projects such as What If…? and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, Thanos often ends up getting murdered during his brief MCU cameos post-Avengers: Endgame. While talking about the Mad Titan’s MCU death scenes, Josh Brolin teased Marvel’s intent to bring him back for a future project.

“You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back,” Brolin told Comicbook.com when asked of his return. “And there’s the What If…? series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back, but I didn’t know that he was the most killed-off Marvel villain … You learn something new every day.”

While it’s unclear exactly where Marvel would bring Thanos back, the most likely options would be a continuation of the Eternals or Avengers: Secret Wars. Given the latter is expected to celebrate not just the MCU, but Marvel as a whole, it’s likely Brolin wouldn’t miss out on one of the biggest films in history, especially considering the Mad Titan’s past in the universe.

The Future of the Avengers Franchise

Avengers 5 is the first movie in a two-part finale to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, rounding out Marvel Studios’ Phase 6.

Destin Daniel Cretton recently made the decision to step down from his role as the director of the upcoming Avengers 5. However, Destin Daniel Cretton’s departure is not an exit from the Marvel family but rather a realignment of his directorial commitments as he’s focused on Wonder Woman and Shang-Chi 2.

Secret Wars is a crossover event that will bring together characters from all across the Marvel multiverse, so Iron Man’s experience and leadership will be invaluable to the Avengers. Michael Waldron is set to write the upcoming Marvel Studios film Avengers: Secret Wars, but a director has yet to be announced.
