Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson Returns

The Walt Disney Studios concluded the major 2024 studio presentations with an impressive showcase, revealing over 75 minutes of footage from its upcoming slate of films. Among the highlights was Captain America: Brave New World, featuring Anthony Mackie reprising his role as Sam Wilson, now officially taking on the mantle of Captain America following the events of Avengers: Endgame and the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Although the CinemaCon footage from Captain America: Brave New World has not been released online, descriptions from those who witnessed the preview have begun circulating on the internet. Disney’s opening sizzle reel at CinemaCon featured a thrilling scene from the new Captain America movie, showing Sam Wilson under attack in the White House. Additionally, the reel provided the first look at Harrison Ford in the role of Thunderbolt Ross, replacing the late William Hurt.

At CinemaCon, Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Anthony Mackie took the stage to present footage from Captain America: Brave New World. Feige described the film as a grounded political thriller, drawing comparisons to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

In the Captain America: Brave New World sizzle reel, Ross commends Sam Wilson’s Captain America for his heroism in Mexico and requests his help to rebuild the Avengers. The conversation takes a tense turn when Wilson probes into what happens if they disagree, hinting at potential conflicts within the upcoming Marvel movie.

Another clip shown involves a ceremonial event where Captain America is being honored by President Ross, which is abruptly disrupted by an attack. The assault is triggered by music that activates sleeper agents, including Carl Lumbly’s Isaiah Bradley, who begins shooting at the gathered politicians and attempts to kill Ross. Captain America fights them off and escapes.

Ross makes it clear that he’s not a fan of heroes but acknowledges the contributions of Sam Wilson’s Captain America. At some point, Ross bluntly says, “You’re not Steve Rogers,” to which Wilson confidently replies, “You’re right. I’m not,” before he dramatically spreads his Falcon wings.
